Thousands of lip colors exist, they come in a wide range of color and shades. Choosing the right color for you will depend on your eye, hair and the other make up colors you will be using on your face. Lipstick is used to enhance the size and/or shape of your lips.

Lipstick completes the finished look of any make up application job. Some come specially formulated to moisturize and heal damaged lips; others are just worn to enhance the natural beauty of a woman’s features.

Using a good lip liner will enhance the definition of your lips and create a neat appearance. It is known that the perfect color match for lip liner should only be one shade darker then your lipstick color. Keeping this in mind when you select your lip colors will ensure you get the look you are after.

Treating your lips before applying lipstick is essential in having a smooth and balanced outcome. Keeping your lips soft and healthy will all depend on how well you remove the lipstick at the end of each day. As you can see there are a few steps involved with maintaining healthy looking lips.

Applying lip color
Equipment needed for application of lip color includes the lip liner, lipstick and lip brush. Moisturizer, foundation sponge, tissue, translucent powder, powder brush and lip-gloss are other items that will be needed to help maintain and protect lips.

  1. Step one-
Lips should be moistened with a moisturizer cream, gentle rub a small amount onto the lips before applying lipstick.

  2. Step two-
Help to even out your lip color by using a bit of your daily skin foundation. This will act as a base and should be lightly applied to the lips before you apply the lip liner.

  3. Step three-
To avoid lipstick from bleeding away from the lips, apply lip liner around the natural edge of your lips. The shade of your lip liner should be no more then one shade darker than your lipstick.

  4. Step four-
Using a lip brush, remove a bit of lipstick and apply it to the lips. The lip brush provides you with better control, allowing you to evenly apply lip color.

  5. Step five-
Dab your lips together on a piece of tissue, this will remove access lipstick and create an even appearance. If you remove too much lip color simply apply more in the same method used before. To complete the process, determine whether you want a shiny or flat appearance.

For a shiny appearance finish the look by adding a lip-gloss on top of the lipstick.
For a flat appearance finish the look by dusting the lips lightly with a translucent powder applied with a powder brush.

Quick tip to applying lip liner with a shaky hand-

By placing evenly spaced dots of lip liner around the natural edge of your lips will help you to draw a neat line by connecting the dots one at a time.

Treatment for your lips
When caring for your lips remember that they too need daily treatment and care.

Lips do not have oil-producing glands and so, keeping them moist will be an essential part of the daily care that will keep them looking healthy and smooth. Neglecting your lips can result in painfully sore cracks, chapped and dry looking skin. Following simple daily treatments will provide your lips with the moisture needed to keep them looking their best.

Lipsticks come in different formulas, choosing one that is right for you will depend on your daily activities or the condition of your lips. Moisturizers are added to most lipsticks, vitamin E is known to soften lips and sunscreen is added to those specially formulated for the outdoor person.

Be sure to follow the steps above when applying lip color on a daily basis, at night be sure to remove lipstick completely.

Removing lipstick
With a little make-up remover added to a cotton ball, gently wipe in an inward direction. Completely remove all lipstick and pat lips dry. Finish up by adding moisturizer or lip-gloss to the clean lips.

You should exfoliate your lips once per week to keep the skin fresh and healthy by removing old skin cells.

How to exfoliate lips
Using a small soft brush or toothbrush, gently brush any dead skin off and away from the lips. Exfoliating stimulates cell turnover and helps to keep lips healthy and smooth.
