Blowdrying Basics For Healthier Hair with Control

Blow-drying your hair is not the best thing for it, natural drying is ultimately the best way to keep your hair in its healthiest condition. Blow-drying is most commonly used to add volume and control frizz, the heat is used to create hairstyles and dry the hair quickly.

For these reasons most people choose to dry their hair with a blow dryer than to allow it to dry naturally. End results are often seen with split ends, breakage and dryness. If and when you are able, consider giving your hair a break on your off days, or days that you can allow it to dry naturally.

A diffuser for instance should be used for curly hair it diffuses the heat and helps to hold in your natural curls. The blow dryer should always be held four to six inches away from your head and, set at a low temperature.

Here are some simple steps to blow-drying your hair correctly

  1. Stage one-
It is important to start off by sectioning your hair. Hair wont dry properly if it is all being dried together, avoid tangles and breakage by dividing your hair into sections before adding heat.

  2. Stage two-
It is best to dry your hair in layers; the bottom layers should be dried first. A small amount of hair should be left down at the back of your head when you are sectioning your hair, this will be your starting point. Start by drying at the roots first, be sure to hold the blow dryer four to six inches away from your head so that your hair does not get overheated. For straight hair use a paddle or round vent brush as it dries, for curly hair use a diffuser and never brush the curls while blow drying (this will cause your hair to frizz). For added volume, you can blow dry the roots and for straight hair blow dry toward the floor as this will smooth the hair and prevent frizz. Curly hair should be dried with your head in an upright position; your hair should be scrunched as it dries this will keep the curls together.

  3. Stage three-
To smooth out any fly away hair, use the brush and dryer to smooth out the top layer. Place the brush against your scalp and apply heat as you turn and lift small sections at a time. This motion helps to curl shorter hairs under the longer layers.

  4. Stage four-
Styling hair for some can be tricky but, with the use of heat and a brush on regular hair, adding volume and control will only be a matter of how the hair is being dried. If you want your hair to go in a specific direction, apply heat and style the hair in that direction. Usually most hair types are not hard to deal with if it is being cared for properly. By using a brush and heat, hair can be left straight or bouncy and, by adding curl to the ends you can create a picture perfect hairstyle.

The way you choose to style your hair will be based on personal preference and what suits you best. Remember to avoid applying heat that is too hot or to close to the head. Allow your hair to dry naturally as often as you possibly can.
