Our image is defined by shape to set appearance and or a specific look. Many people have no idea on how to achieve a look that suits the structure of their face and so find they are continually searching for that look that will set them aside from the norm or common.

As individuals we are everything but common and our image should say that. Hair, says a lot for our appearance, finding a hairstyle that suits the shape of your face is an important part of creating a more beautiful you. The human face can vary in size, shape and unique features. Identifying the hairstyle and cut that will enhance your personal facial appearance may be hard but, here is a guide that may help you out in testing a new look that may be perfect for you.

A round face-
As it sounds, a round face is usually very round in shape. The forehead is wide and the cheeks are usually as wide as the jaw. A visible jaw line is not usually seen on a round face.

Hairstyle and cut best suited for this type of face should be short and wispy. Side parts allow your face to appear longer. Layers and fullness can cause an even fuller facial appearance; avoid hairstyles that are to full, as they will do the opposite of what you are trying to achieve.

Heart shaped face-
A heart shaped face is usually wide in the forehead area with high cheekbones and the chin is often pointy.

Hairstyle and cut best suited for this type of face should be longer in length. Avoid short haircuts. Soft bangs with a side part and hair tucked behind the ears is a great look for this type of face. Layers and body will emphasize the bone structure and define the shape of the face. Wispy or flip style can be added to the ends to complete the look you may be trying to achieve.

Square face-
This shape is determined by the structure of the facial bones; a defined square look comes from a wide forehead and straight across jaw line. High cheekbones are not uncommon on a square face.

Hairstyle and cut best suited for this type of face should be wispy with tapered side parted bangs. The cut should be either above or below the jaw line and the ends should be styled under to soften the line of your jaw. Volume should be added to the crown of the head by styling or layering the hair, this will help your face look less square.

Oval face-
This face shape could easily be miss understood, as it looks something like a round and square shaped face. The forehead and jaw line is wide, the chin is narrow and pointier than either of the round or square shaped face.

Hairstyle and cut best suited for this type of face should be short or chin length. The hair could be layered at the bottom but not on the top of the head. Side parted bangs are best. Avoid parting your hair in the center of your face as this will enhance the oval shape you are trying to get away from.

Many hairstyles exist; the ones listed above should only be used as a guide. Consult with a hairstylist before you go snipping away to get a second opinion on the styles being considering.
